All About Contemporary Fireplace Surrounds

Recently I decided to give my home a bit of a face lift.
It has been about ten years since I last did any serious work on my property, so I figured that it was about time.
One of my most important decisions was to decide that I was going to make the fireplace the focal point of the living room and for that I needed to look into buying contemporary fireplace surrounds for both the living room and the fireplace I had in the dinning room as well.
Normally when I buy things, the first place that I do my research is online and this was no exception.
There where so many options in regards, to colors, materials and designs that after about five minutes of being online I was all pumped up and excited about how my fireplaces were going to look with their new surrounds.
However, what I found was that even though the pictures online where great and they gave me as good an idea as I could get from an image, as to how it would look in your home, I personally needed to actually go in and feel the surrounds and see them up close and personal.
This is something that I would strongly urge you to do also.
One of the reasons for this was that there where a couple of surrounds that looked fantastic online and that I came very close to buying from a particular website; however, when I saw them in the flesh, I hated the texture of the material they were made out of and therefore it would have been a huge mistake for me to buy them, even at a cheap price.
The main thing you will have to do is to make sure that your contemporary fireplace surround style goes with the rest of the room you are putting it in.
In fact, this should go without saying, but you also need to make sure that it actually goes with the fireplace as well.
I have actually seen beautiful traditional fireplaces engulfed in modern surrounds and the two look absolutely horrible together.
Don't make this mistake.
If you don't have an eye for these things then please get the input of someone who does, or at the very least spend a lot of time cutting out different designs from magazines to make sure that what you have in mind will match.
