How to Get Rid of Bedbugs on Infants
- 1). Remove all linens from the bed and wash in hot water.
- 2). Iron sheets, blankets and the mattress to kill any remaining bugs or eggs.
- 3). Vacuum the entire room thoroughly and steam-clean carpets and draperies. Make sure to vacuum any cracks or crevices. Dispose of the vacuum cleaner bag after vacuuming the room to prevent surviving bugs from getting back out of the vacuum cleaner.
- 4). Store all stuffed animals or cloth toys in plastic bags until they can be laundered thoroughly in hot water. Any toys that cannot be laundered should remain sealed for at least a year---the time it takes for bedbugs to starve.
- 5). Spray all surfaces in the room, including the infant's bed, with a nontoxic bug killer or cedar oil.
- 6). Encase the infant's mattress in a mattress cover.
