How to Troubleshoot a 2001 Ford Taurus Car Stereo

    • 1). Check the radio reception. Check the antenna. Examine the wiring to see if there are any damaged spots or any frayed wiring. To do this, you will need to slide a set of DIN tools into the DIN holes on the face of the stereo and pull the stereo unit out. From there, you can inspect the wiring for any visible damage.

    • 2). Check for any blown fuses in the Taurus's fuse box. The fuse box is located under the dash. Pull the fuse box panel down to expose the fuses, and visually inspect the end of the fuse. You should be able to see whether the fuse has popped by shining a flashlight onto the head of the fuse. Replace the stereo fuse if it has popped.

    • 3). Check for distortion in the speakers. If there is distortion, you might need to replace your speakers. Distortion is an indication that the speakers are unable to handle the amplifier in the stereo unit. You will need to have a professional installer replace the speakers.
