How to Take a Pet to Bali
- 1). Order the appropriate forms---including an Indonesia-Bali health certificate, an Import Certificate, an Airline Veterinary Certificate and a pet passport folder---from pettravelstore.com.
- 2). Take your pet to the veterinarian for an up-to-date rabies vaccination, as well as any other shots the pet may need to be up-to-date on its health record. Ask your vet to fill out a current rabies vaccination certificate. Be sure the vet includes the date the inoculation will need to be renewed. You must have the original copy of the rabies certificate. Also make sure your pet's vaccine book is up-to-date with all the newest shots. Have the vet fill out a valid health certificate for your pet.
Get a microchip for your pet, if you don't already have one. According to petrelocation.com, your chip must be an "ISO Standard 11784, or Annex A to ISO Standard 11785," or if not, you must provide your own scanner. (See Reference 1) - 3). Fill out the import certificate you ordered from pettravelstore.com. Include the required information, a copy of your pet's health certificate and the pet's vaccine book with the certificate. Mail the certificate to the Indonesia Department of Agriculture address listed on the form. It can take 30 days or more to get the import certificate back from the authorities in Indonesia.
- 4). Obtain a Valid Health Certificate for your pet (form 7001 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture) from a USDA-accredited veterinarian four to five days before your flight. The form should state that the pet is free from signs of diseases like rabies and distemper. The form is only available from an accredited veterinarian, so be sure your vet has them before you make this appointment. Other countries have similar accreditation processes, so check with the veterinarian in your home country for instructions. Also have your vet sign the airline veterinary certificate you got in your packet.
- 5). Send the USDA forms (or your country's equivalent) to your nearest USDA office for approval. Your vet can assist you with this process.
- 6). Arrive at the airport with your pet passport, USDA-approved health certificate, your import certificate and your pet in a crate large enough for the animal to stand up and move around in. Bring along plenty of pet food and water for the long plane ride. When you arrive in Indonesia, you will be given instructions about possible quarantine for pets.
