How to Identify Signs of Motion Sickness

104 14
    • 1). Note any dizziness or nausea. These are the most common signs of motion sickness. While many younger children driving in cars are especially prone, these symptoms also affect adults, especially those who try to read while in motion.

    • 2). Think about what you are feeling. Are you experiencing a spinning sensation just waiting for the car to lurch forward or the airplane to take off? In many cases, just the mere thought of motion causes many individuals to feel like they are spinning out of control. To alleviate such symptoms, close your eyes, recline if possible, and breathe slowly and deeply.

    • 3). Check the skin for signs of sweating. Confusion or anxiety often cause an increase in sweat production, as well as an accelerated heartbeat and increased respirations. When possible, take an over-the-counter medication as directed on the package to help with symptoms. Be cautious, as such medications may make you drowsy.

    • 4). Look at your face in a mirror. Is it sallow or pale? If you are white as a ghost, chances are that your body is already reacting to the anxiety caused by conflicting messages being sent to the brain. Whenever possible, try to focus on a distant point out the window to help maintain a sense of equilibrium.
