How to Prepare a House for Termite Fumigation
- 1). Clean out the cabinets and refrigerator removing any food items in opened containers. Bag remaining items in protective Nylofume bags. Cans and unopened jars do not need to be bagged.
- 2). Remove as much medication as possible from the home and bag remaining medicine containers in Nylofume bags.
- 3). Remove all plants and animals from the home. Arrange for pets to stay with friends, relatives or at a kennel during the fumigation. Move plants to the home of a friend or relative, or simply move them outside if the weather permits. If moving the plants outside during the fumigation, move them to a safe place far enough away from the house that they will not be in the way of the workers or tarp covering the home.
- 4). Notify your neighbors so that they can keep their children and pets safely away from your home.
- 5). Pack your valuables to take them with you when you leave and create an inventory check list of the valuables you must leave behind.
- 6). Remove all mattresses, pillows and routinely slept with stuffed animals, especially infant mattresses and stuffed toys. Waterbed mattresses are safe to leave in the home.
- 7). Remove objects from your roof such as chimney caps and antennas that may interfere with the tarp.
- 8). Water the plants surrounding that home heavily to protect the soil from the gas. The tent will cover up to 18 inches of ground outside the home, so any plants in this area will be exposed to the gas.
