• Argon and krypton are noble gases, which are inert and rare. Xenon, helium and neon are also noble gases.

• Argon is less rare than krypton, comprising roughly 1 percent of the Earth's atmosphere. Krypton, on the other hand, makes up roughly 1 part per million in the atmosphere.
  
  

Cost

• Argon is about five times as expensive as dry nitrogen. Krypton is roughly 100 times as expensive as argon.
  
  

Efficiency

• In general, krypton is more efficient than argon. However, each gas performs differently based on the gap between panes. Argon is more efficient in gaps of half an inch, whereas krypton performs better in gaps of a quarter inch.
  
  

Best Uses

• Based on the efficiency of these two gases, argon is more often used in double pane windows that have a larger pane gap, while krypton is used in triple pane windows that have a thinner pane gap.
