104 22

    History

    • The Civil Rights movement of the 1960s lead to the affirmative action enforcements of the 1970s. The 1980s saw increased respect for diversity, which lead to diversity training and management in the 1990s. The new millennium has introduced businesses to the idea of diversity of thought as well as diversity of people.

    Significance

    • Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) laws ensure that every employee in a business has an equal chance to be hired or promoted, regardless of their race, origin, sex, age or disability. Diversity is legally required under EEO laws, but many businesses see diversity training as a proactive way to embrace the U.S.'s changing demographic.

    Function

    • Business diversity training teaches management and employees to respect and embrace EEO laws. It educates employees in techniques that help them accept others' differences. Business diversity training coaches management in inclusion methods.
