How to Remove the Raccoon Odor From a Garage
- 1). Open your garage doors and windows to ventilate the room.
- 2). Close any holes in the walls, foundation, or roof to make sure raccoons can't get back into your garage.
- 3). If the raccoons are attracted to garbage in your garage, it's important to redirect them. Keep garbage cans outside and lock the lids down tight with a bungee cord.
- 4). Soak the bungee cord in hot pepper sauce to prevent the raccoons from trying to take it off. Remember that the cord is soaked, and wear gloves each time you handle it.
- 5). Install motion-activated lights on your house or garage to scare off raccoons at night.
- 6). Find the area from which the odor is emanating the most strongly and apply straight bleach or vinegar to the area. Allow it to soak for an hour, then scrub the area with a scrub brush and hot, soapy water.
- 7). Repeat the bleach or vinegar application several times until the smell is gone.
