If you want an Iguana as a pet, you have to know that these animals can become aggressive sometimes towards people, even if it's their owners who stand in their way.
Although you might treat your Iguana pet with a lot of love and understanding, it can become aggressive with you in certain circumstances.
Why Are Iguanas Aggressive? Even if we treat Iguanas as domestic pets, they are not at all similar to cats and dogs.
They are still wild animals who live in captivity and, if their owners understand them, can become very good pets.
If you have a pet Iguana, you should know there are some situations when Iguanas are more likely to become aggressive, like when a male Iguana starts its mating cycle.
Most males display aggressive tendencies during the breeding season, so you will know now why suddenly, your friendly male Iguana has become all of a sudden aggressive.
The solution is to be patient and to wait until it passes.
But this is not the only reason why Iguanas can become aggressive.
Stressful environmental conditions provoked by changes of temperature or loud noises, a new animal in the family, a bad diet or a new home, can also be an important reason for aggressiveness.
How to Calm a Stressed Iguana? When you decided that the reason for your Iguana's aggressiveness is stress, the next step is deciding what caused the stress.
If it's about a new pet, too loud or too nosy, try to separate them so the stress would be avoided, and also create a camouflaged hiding place, so your Iguana has somewhere to hide if things around her become overwhelming.
It could also be a new house, new environment or new terrarium, in this case you should check that all the requirements for the well being of your pet are met, then wait about two weeks or so for your Iguana to accommodate.
If none of the above is the cause of your Iguana's stress, then you should also check its diet, as changing the brand can affect the composition, and there could be some deficiencies that can affect its health and disposition.
There can also be a heterogenic food and Iguanas are known as picky eaters, so it could choose to eat only the most appealing of the morsels, leaving you pet nutritionally deficient.
The easiest way to deal with this situation is to chop the food so it looks similar and mix it so it would be more difficult to express preferences.
Another thing that can stress your pet Iguana is the access to heat.
If you put the heat lamp too close to it, your Iguana can get burned, or over heated, if there isn't a lower temperature area in the enclosure.
Also, too low a temperature can affect its vital functions.
The temperature in the enclosure shouldn't drop under 80 degrees Fahrenheit.
