Butterfly Craft With a Paper Towel Tube
- Use a paper towel tube to make the butterfly's body. Paint or glue pieces of colorful paper around it. Glue pipe cleaners to make the six legs. Cut the wings out of a piece of cardboard paper, paint them and glue onto the butterfly's body. Make the head out of cardboard paper and glue on the outer side of the paper tube. Pass a piece of yarn through the tube, then stretch it from one side of the room to the other, in a 45-degree angle, to make the butterfly slide down toward the lower end.
- Make a giant butterfly with paper towel tubes. Glue four tubes together to the sides to make the body. Cut three tubes in half to make the six legs. Paint them and leave to dry. Stuff a paper bag with old newspaper to make the butterfly's head. Draw the mouth and cut two 1-inch wide rings off of a tube to make the outline of the eyes. Use paper cleaner for the antennae. Cut rings off six or more tubes, paint or wrap them in paper foil. You can make the wings with cardboard and decorate them with the colorful rings.
- Draw a butterfly on a paper towel roll, paint it and leave it to dry. Cut the roll into five to eight rings. Ask the children to assemble the roll again, to show the butterfly. Challenge older children by using four paper tubes. Draw the butterflies, cut the tubes into rings and mix them all. Give the children 5 minutes to assemble the four paper tubes again according to the butterfly drawings.
