- Table salt when dissolved in water can kill a colony of termites. Dissolve 1 part salt into 4 parts warm water in a container such as a bowl or a jar. Find the location of the termites in your house, and spray or pour the table salt solution on the termites. They will be killed because of the high sodium content of the solution.
- Termites will die when they come in direct contact with laundry bleach. Wear gloves to protect your skin from irritation, and wear safety goggles to protect your eyes from splashes. Pour the bleach directly on the termite colony.
- Boric acid, unlike the other household items, does not instantly kill the termites. It will destroy the digestive tracts of the termites, starving them to death. It also attacks their nervous systems and dries out their bodies. You can sprinkle boric acid on the location of the termites such as on wood piles. When the termites ingest the acid, it will take effect slowly. The termites will usually go back to their nests before dying. To increase the effectiveness of the boric acid, mix it with table salt. Be careful not to use boric acid in areas where pets or children play.
- Spray the lubricant on the termite colony to get rid of them. The lubricant works by suffocating the termites as it clogs their breathing pores. To get into hard-to-reach areas, use the applicator straw that normally comes with the spray.
