104 10
    • 1). Check the suitability and availability of your business name. Your name will not be accepted if it falls into any of the following categories: it is misleading, it is offensive to the general public, it is not "proper" English (i.e. letters written upside down or backwards are not acceptable), it includes prohibited phrases such as "Red Cross." You can check to see if your chosen name is already taken at the Queensland Government website (see Resources).

    • 2). Download, print and complete the application form (see Resources).

    • 3). Obtain identification for you and all other business owners. The identification must include a photo and a signature, and can be provided as an original or a certified copy. Accepted types of identification include a passport, driver's license, tertiary student card, public service identity card, pension concession card, 18+ card, birth certificate or an extract from a birth entry.

    • 4). Pay the registration fees. Registration costs $126 for one year, or $241 for three years as of 2010. Payment can be made in the form of a check or a money order payable to the Office of Fair Trading. Include the fee with your application submission. Alternatively, fill out the payment section on the bottom of the application form to pay by credit card.

    • 5). Submit your application with the Queensland Fair Trading department. You can submit your application by mail to the Registration Services office:

      Registration Services

      Fair Trading Operations

Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation

      GPO Box 3111

      Brisbane QLD 4001

Alternatively, you can have your application approved in person at the nearest Fair Trading office (see Resources).
