You can now take the following steps to complete your keyword search.
The aim is to find out what the monthly search volume is for a particular keyword.
We also need to know how much competition there is for our particular keyword.
It is important that you keep a record of your results, and the best way to do this is to create a spreadsheet of some description.
You can use Excel or Word for this exercise.
That way, you won't have to remember important details in your head.
Let's suppose you are starting from scratch.
You have a parcel delivery service with which you wish to create traffic.
Now, what keywords are you going to use that will accurately reflect your niche business? Let's use a tool that will generate some ideas for you.
There are several tools online that you can use to help you with this exercise.
Type in your niche idea; that is "parcel delivery".
Now, you should be presented with a list of keywords that are related to your parcel delivery term.
On the right-hand side, you will also see the approximate monthly search volume.
Make a note of how many monthly searches are made for your particular keyword.
Then scroll down and have a look at the additional keywords to consider section.
Now, add any new keyword that you think fits your niche, and make a note again of the monthly searches.
Once you have completed that exercise it is time to find out how much competition there is online for each of your keywords.
Go to one of the main browsers and type in your chosen keyword in quotes.
So parcel delivery will be "parcel delivery.
" Today there were 604,000 competitors for this particular keyword.
Let's try adding a word to vary it.
Type in "next day parcel delivery.
" Now, there are 2,540 competitors for this term.
This is a very good keyword to use, and it will be relatively easy for you to get to the top 10 search result.
Now, repeat the exercise for all the other keywords that you have and you would like to use.
Record the details in your spreadsheet.
Make a note of the monthly searches and the number of competitors for each keyword.
Another very useful tool you can use is one that gives you suggestions for keywords and their monthly searches.
Only use the free tools.
There is absolutely no need for you to purchase a keyword tool for this small project, unless you really want to.
There are hundreds of keyword tools available, but these two should suffice.
Once you have compiled your list of keywords, there is a little extra research you can do to evaluate the strength of your competition that is already on the first page of the search result.
Your aim is to unseat your competition for rankings by taking their spots.
