How to Make Your Own Baseball Shirt
- 1). Plan the kind of baseball shirt you are going to make. This depends on how you will be using the shirt. You can make your own replica baseball jersey, a T-shirt that bears a logo or anything in between. Make some sketches so you have an idea of where you are going. You can make up the logo for your own pretend baseball team or approximate the colors and designs of your favorite team.
- 2). Chalk the outline of a shirt pattern onto your fabric. It may help you to use straight pins to attach the pattern to the material. If you don't want to buy a pattern, you can make your own fairly easily. Undo the seams on an old baseball shirt of the same style, and use those pieces as a pattern.
- 3). Cut the fabric along the chalk lines until you have all of the pieces of your shirt. If you want to make sure all of the pieces go together correctly, use the straight pins to roughly put the shirt together. If you need to, you can trim pieces or cut new ones.
- 4). Sew the parts of the shirt together. Leave yourself at least a half-inch for the seams so you have a little wiggle room if the shirt turns out to be too tight. Use a sewing machine for fast, even seams or go old-school with a simple needle and thread. Cut half-inch button holes every few inches down one side of your shirt. Then attach buttons down the front of the shirt that will go into the holes.
- 5). Decorate your baseball shirt. Work from the sketches you made, but don't be afraid to change your mind; it's all about creativity. Add iron-on transfers, use puffy paint or sew on patches until you are happy with the baseball shirt you've made. Consider sewing numbers onto the back of your baseball shirt for a professional touch.
