103 26
Studies have shown that wild leopard geckos feed primarily under large rocks and in patches of grass, so that they won't be able to ingest too much sand.
If you intend to feed your geckos properly, you must then have a good spot, free of sand, for them to eat.
As insectivores, these geckos eat mostly grasshoppers, crickets, wax worms and silkworms.
Unlike other reptiles, theydo not consume plants and vegetables.
Leopard gecko feed typically includes wax worms, pinkies and crickets.
Crickets are the most widely known pet gecko food.
The insect is provided to the gecko while it is alive and active, so that it can also function as exercise for your pet gecko.
Lizards follow their natural instinct and hunt for their food while in their native land.
The live insect, therefore, provides the stimulus that your pet needs.
Crickets are also not hard to acquire.
Many owners think that it is the most nutritious.
However, having a variation of other kinds of leopard gecko feed would still greatly improve your pet's health.
These creatures also havea fragile coating compared to mealworms.
This makes the insects faster to digest.
However, there are some issues that owners have with these creatures.
For one, crickets are clamorous, and when left unconsumed, crickets are believed to chew at the geckos, instigating wounds.
Mealworms are somewhat simple to utilize as gecko feed.
Basically, just place them in a small pan and your pets will approach and eat them.
They do contain a lot of fat, which could be either unhealthy or favourable for your pet gecko.
Conversely, mealworms are inclined to conceal themselves into the substrate, turning mealtime, sooner or later, into an exhausting game of chase.
Given that this feed doesn't move quickly like crickets, they are not arousing game for your gecko.
If you prefer your gecko to be fit without using mealworms, you can simply add nutritious cricket dust in the shallow pan or on the insect itself.
The dust can also displease the mealworms, which could make them more active, should you still choose to feed your gecko this.
Presenting food to your gecko is perhaps among the most effortless tasks in taking care of your gecko.
Mature geckos do not eat each day.
They can be fed just once every two days.
On the other hand, the immature gecko should be fed everyday, given that its nutritional requirements are different from mature geckos.
Another important factor you need to consider when feeding your pet gecko is gut loading.
Gut loading is simply making sure that you feed nutritious food to the crickets and mealworms that you will feed your gecko for 24 hours before feeding them to your pet gecko.
These nutritious meals will make your geckos healthier.
Providing your gecko with vitamins and calciumis also vital for your leopard gecko's health.
Lastly, do not forget to feed them enough water.
