Is the Eurailpass Youth Good Value?

The Eurailpass Youth gives you all the freedom in the world, but at a price. At $1,108 for three months, you need to be traveling a lot for the pass to be worth its while. The pass costs $12 (9€) per day for the three-month pass and $26 (20€) per day for the 15-day version.
Assuming you are staying at least two whole days in most places, you'll need to be taking journeys worth $78 (60€) every three days on the cheapest pass for it to be practical. A long journey in Spain (for example from Granada to Barcelona or Valencia to Santiago de Compostela) costs about 50€-90€ ($65-$118). As an example of prices in other countries, a ticket from Nice to Paris in France costs 133€ ($175) and from Hamburg to Munich in Germany costs 115€ ($150).

These are about as far as you can go in one country, so remember that the average cost of travel in these countries is a lot lower. Also take into account that for every trip you take, you may have to pay a reservation fee (which is essential in Spain and very desirable in other countries), pushing the price up even further.

There's nothing worse than feeling compelled to move on because you've invested so much money in travel, so think wisely about whether you need such an expensive pass. Unless you're traveling from the tip of Finland to the south of Spain via Romania, it is unlikely that this ticket will be worth the money.
