- 1). Loosen the bolt under the hood holding the grounding cable to the negative battery terminal with the 10-mm wrench. Remove the cable from the battery and set it aside. Move to the inside of the vehicle.
- 2). Slide each of the two Ford DIN removal keys into the vertically aligned holes on either side of the Escort's factory stereo deck. Push the tools into the stereo until they lock into place.
- 3). Pull outward on the keys while sliding the stereo from the Ford's dashboard. Disconnect the stereo and antenna cable from the back of the stock unit.
- 4). Slide the aftermarket stereo's installation cage into the vacant stereo dock. Pull the stereo wiring and antenna cable from the back of the Ford's stereo dock to the front of the dashboard. Bend the metal tabs inside the cage outward with a flat screwdriver to secure it within the dock.
- 5). Connect the stereo wiring connectors to the wiring harness adapter leads. Plug the adapter's lead connectors into the appropriate outlets on the rear panel of the new CD player. Insert the antenna cable lead into the FM antenna input on the aftermarket CD player's rear panel. Slide the unit into the installation cage until it locks into place. Return to the battery.
- 6). Place the grounding cable clamp back onto the negative battery terminal post. Tighten the bolt on the cable's clamp with the wrench and close the Escort's hood.
