Keep Nesting Birds Out of Hanging Plants

    • 1). Stick a child's pinwheel in the soil of your hanging basket. As the wind blows, the motion and the flashy plastic of the pinwheel will startle the birds and keep them from wanting to move in.

    • 2). Hang strips of mylar from the top of the hanging basket. The strips of mylar will catch the light, and scare the birds away.

    • 3). Wrap bird netting around the top of the plant or hang it in swags from the hook where the hanging basket rests. The bird netting prevents the birds from accessing the area that they would use for nesting.

    • 4). Place a plastic snake in your hanging plant basket. Arrange the snake so that it is visible to any birds that come by but is not visible to any casual observer. The snake will scare the birds off the hanger.
