Sandusky Ohio
Overview:
Sandusky, located midway between Cleveland and Toledo on Lake Erie's southern shore, is best known as the gateway to Cedar Point amusement park. However, the town, founded in 1818, offers much more. The city also boasts a large collection of restored 19th century buildings.
History:
Sandusky was first developed by Europeans in the late 18th century as a British fur trading and outpost. After the American Revolutionary War, the area--a part of the Western Reserve--became a haven for Connecticut residents displaced by the war. The opening of Cedar Point in the 1870s brought a steady stream of seasonal vacationers to the Sandusky area, something that continues today.
