Hardy Growing Climbing Roses

Henry Kelsey

• This lovely red rose blooms out with medium-sized blossoms and a spicy fragrance. It is resistant to black spot and powdery mildew and overwinters well in cold northern winters. Henry Kelsey can reach 9 feet and is hardy to zone 2b without protection and further north with winter protection.

• Louis Jolliet is extremely hardy and thrives in cold climates. Its clusters of medium pink flowers bloom in the spring and again periodically throughout the summer. Resistant to powdery mildew and black spot, it can grow to reach between 5 and 7 feet and is hardy through zone 3.
  
  

John Cabot

• A prolific climber, John Cabot is a repeat-bloomer that blossoms from early June through September. It has large clusters of deep pink to deep red flowers, bright green, glossy foliage and is fairly resistant to black spot disease, rust and powdery mildew. John Cabot can grow up to 10 feet and is hardy from zones 3 through 9 with without winter protection and through zone 2 with protection.

• William Baffin is exceptionally hardy in zones 2a through 9b with winter protection and is extremely resistant to powdery mildew, rust and black spot disease. It is a repeat-blooming rose with dark pink flowers and a soft, subtle scent. William Baffin needs a strong support to grow well, but can reach up to 10 feet with proper training.

• Also called Polestar, this ice white rose is a rambler/climber that is extremely hardy in the cold northern climate. Native to Finland, this rose produces clusters of double blooms on tough, sturdy stems. Polestar can reach heights of 18 feet and is hardy through zone 2.

• John Davis produces large clusters of blossoms continuously throughout the growing season until the first frost. This rose is spicy-scented and the blooms are delicate pink with a slight yellow tint. A highly disease-resistant climbing rose that can reach up to 8 feet, John Davis is hardy through zone 2b.
