Laetitia runs Fabulous Weddings in Buenos Aires, Argentina, a wedding planning consultancy group. She founded it in 2010, after Argentina’s Same Sex Wedding law was passed, the first in Latin America. The company though plans anybody’s wedding, no matter if gay or straight. You might want to consider her services in Buenos Aires, or any other part of the country, and no matter if it is the two of you or a full-on destination wedding.

About.com Argentina Travel: What makes a ‘gay’ wedding different from a ‘straight’ wedding – or what are the similarities in approaches.

I would say the role tradition plays. In a gay wedding you get to be empowered by tradition, but aren’t limited by it. You get to tailor the ceremony and experience to the couple’s personality without having to limit yourself to some outdated protocol or trend. Not being able to see the bride before she walks down the aisle for example, whereas for same sex weddings most couples love getting ready together and it becomes one of the more special memories they take away from the day (not to mention it makes for gorgeous photography and a really fab & fun moment).

Straight couples feel pressured to stick to a tradition that isn’t always really true to who they are. So for a gay wedding, it easier to build an event around what it should be about - love and celebrating the individual couple for who they are and their personal love story.

In that way I think gay marriage is helping all marriages! Straight couples are seeing that they don’t have to have a wedding that looks like everyone else’s. It’s a really exciting and beautiful time to be in the wedding planning business.

What have been some of your favorite locations in Argentina for a wedding- from venues in Buenos Aires, or hotels, to actual cities, or remote resorts?

There are so many, I don’t even know where to start. Let me just say that whether you chose to get married in the middle of a winery in Mendoza, in an estancia surrounded by gauchos, or in a luxury hotel with a mix of incredible foods, shows and dancing… Argentina offers the most unique and beautiful places to get through a huge celebration, a destination wedding… or simple civil ceremony like a Commitment (or Symbolic Ceremony) for the couple and their closest friends.

You’ve also mentioned the concept of the Buddy-Moon. Tell me more?

In a nutshell - instead of planning a wedding and a honeymoon separately we offer a service that lets you combine your wedding and honeymoon into one big vacation for everyone. Buddy-moons minimize stress and planning and maximize the time couples get to spend with their guests discovering new places. All you have to do is have an amazing time! We take care of the rest (travel arrangements, et cetera).

And you also do straight or mainstream weddings too, right?

Love is love. We do it all. Mainstream sounds really traditional though - we involve much much more! We are happy to work with any couple wanting a FAB celebration. We see the value and beauty in every type of ceremony - gay, straight, religious, civil, symbolic commitment ceremonies - it’s about love and the couple. It’s that simple.
