    Instructions

    • 1). Submit an application for a visa. If you're a foreign national in transit from the Dominican Republic, you need a visa to enter Cuba. If you're a Dominican Republic citizen, you need to apply in person at a Cuban consulate in the Dominican Republic or in neighboring countries with Dominican Republic jurisdiction.

    • 2). Plan and book your flights and accommodations early. Cuban immigration will require you to present your return flight details, the name of the hotel where you will be staying and your tourist cards properly filled out.

    • 3). Use your approved Cuban visa within 180 days to prevent it from expiring or you'll need to apply for a new one. Tourist visas are valid only for 30 days upon date of entry to Cuba. However, stays can be extended. For stays that exceed 90 days, an exit visa is required.

    • 4). Take a plane from Santo Domingo's La Isabela International Airport or Las Americas--JFPG International Airport to Santiago de Cuba or Havana in Cuba. The flight from the Dominican Republic to Cuba takes about 2.5 hours and is serviced by Copa Airlines, Cubana and AeroCaribbean.

    • 5). Hail a taxi just outside the airport to the city center or to your hotel. Buses are also available. It takes about an hour to get to downtown Havana, but it is cheaper than a cab.

    • 6). Entering Cuba by sea is also possible. However, you need a special chartered boat to do this. Dominican Republic's only international ferry service, Ferries de Caribe, only travels to and from Puerto Rico.
