Delaware Family Law Statutes
- Domestic relations laws concern matters of marriage, divorce, annulment, custody, adoption, child support and enforcement, guardianship, third party visitation and transfer of parental rights.
- In addition to laws governing domestic relations, Title 13, under Chapters 20, 21 and 22, contains statutes that establish agencies or commissions to administer specific matters of family law.
- Chapter 20 creates a Commission on Family Law consisting of 16 citizens appointed jointly by the President Pro Tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives. Its function is to conduct public hearings, publish and disseminate information on family law and make recommendations to the legislature.
- Chapter 21 creates the Domestic Violence and Coordinating Council to study, review, analyze and make recommendations to the legislature on domestic violence. It also serves as a liaison between agencies and victims of domestic violence.
- Chapter 22 creates a Division of Child Support Enforcement within the Delaware Department of Health and Social Services. It adopts and administers rules and procedures, including the initiation of legislation, regarding child support enforcement.
