    • 1). Remove the t-bone steaks from the refrigerator approximately one hour before you wish to begin cooking them. Leave them at room temperature to allow them to warm slightly.

    • 2). Preheat a grill. If you are using a charcoal grill, light the briquettes about 30 minutes before you wish to grill. Allow the briquettes to become mostly gray. If you are using a gas grill, preheat it for five minutes on high and then reduce the heat to medium.

    • 3). Place the t-bone steaks onto the hot grill. Close the grill lid and cook the steaks for five minutes on one side.

    • 4). Open the grill and flip the steaks to the other side with the spatula. Close the grill and cook the steaks for another five minutes.

    • 5). Check the doneness of the steaks with a meat thermometer. Insert the meat thermometer into the thickest part of the steak and check the temperature. Rare steaks have an internal temperature of between 125 and 140 degrees Fahrenheit. Medium steaks have an internal temperature of between 140 and 150 degrees Fahrenheit. Medium-well to well done stakes have an internal temperature of between 150 degrees and 160 degrees Fahrenheit.

    • 6). Cook the steaks until the temperature reaches the level of doneness you desire.

    • 7). Remove the steaks when they reach the appropriate temperature. Transfer the steaks to a platter and serve immediately.
