- 1). Write a marital settlement agreement with your spouse that outlines custody, financial and child support. This agreement is legally binding once approved by the court. If you can't agree, hire lawyers to help you reach agreement through mediation. Both couples should sign the form and then get it notarized.
- 2). Fill out, sign and get a declaration under the Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction Act. The form states the names of all children and the custody arrangement.
- 3). Fill out a petition for divorce, available at the East Feliciana Parish clerk of court's office. The petition asks for basic information about the names and addresses of the spouses and the reason for the divorce. Pay the filing fee to the clerk. Also file the marital settlement agreement and the declaration under the child custody jurisdiction act.
