    Insurance Company Regulations

    • Insurance companies in California are regulated by the California Department of Insurance.

    Insurance Premium Regulations

    • Rates and premiums are determined by factors found in Section 1861.02 of California Insurance Code. The major factors include the policyholder's driving safety record, how many miles the policyholder drives each year and the number of years the policyholder has had a license.

    Fines

    • Any motorist involved in an accident involving a motorist that does not hold motorcycle insurance will have his license suspended for one year and face a fine of up to $2,000.

    Maximum Award For Nonvehicular Damages

    • The maximum amount that can be award for nonvehicular damages is $250,000.

    Exceptions Of Liability

    • Anyone causing pain, suffering, inconvenience, physical impairment or disfigurement to a motorcyclist is not liable to compensate the motorcyclist if they were legally intoxicated, uninsured or committing a felony.
