How to Get a Driver's License Without a Social Security Number

    • 1). Read the proof of identity or residency requirements at your state's DMV website.

    • 2). Gather proof of residency, such as utility bills, a student ID, state insurance policy or a pay stub with your name and address.

    • 3). Contact the Social Security Administration at 800-TAXFORM to obtain an Individual Taxpayer Identification Form or a statement from the Social Security Administration if you are not eligible for a Social Security number. Most states will accept this statement from the Social Security Administration in lieu of a Social Security number.

    • 4). Apply for a driver's license at the DMV. Bring your passport, birth certificate or another federal proof of identification. If you're a citizen of another country, bring your passport with a valid visa.
