Reasons to Have a Bearded Dragon As a Pet
If you are looking for a reptile that actually likes to be held and enjoys human contact, then this could be the right choice for you.
Personally, I have over 10 years experience dealing with Bearded Dragons.
They are absolutely adorable as babies.
As adults, they make great companions.
Adult Bearded Dragons like to ride on your shoulder and just hang out with you.
They are in no hurry to run off anywhere.
Just climb upon your shoulder and hang out.
As babies they are full of energy, still don't mind being held, but like any other baby they have to go explore.
So as they age, they rely on you to do all the moving, while they investigate.
Even in the cage, my adult Dragons always used to watch me when I would walk by, it's like they were waiting for me to come let them out.
Quite the personality! Other than their personality (which is what I fell in love with), they are really easy to take care of.
In the first year, they might cost you a bit more money.
Only because they are growing and need protein.
Lots of crickets and meal worms.
Plus a nice variety of fruits and vegetables.
But as they age their metabolism slows down.
After they are finished growing, which is probably between one and two years, you should reduce their diet to fruits and vegetables.
So nice and easy, generally stuff you have in your fridge anyways.
The only other expenses you will have is changing their fluorescent bulbs yearly, replacing heat bulbs, and buying new substrate.
So in conclusion, We have a reptile with a great personality, likes to hang, and relatively inexpensive to keep.
Sounds like an excellent choice to me.
