How to Paint on Lucite

104 2
    • 1). Clean the Lucite surface with a trisodium phosphate cleanser. While dirt buildup is uncommon on Lucite, oily residues can stick to the surface. Trisodium phosphate helps neutralize oily residue for a cleaner paintable surface.

    • 2). Protect items that you don't want painted with painter's masking tape.

    • 3). Apply bonding primer to the Lucite surface with a medium-nap roller and synthetic-bristle paintbrush. The roller is best for large areas, while paintbrushes are ideal for tight corners. Bonding primer is formulated for better adhesion to Lucite, glass and laminates. Allow the primer to dry.

    • 4). Paint the surface with latex paint. If you're using a gloss or semi-gloss sheen, use foam rollers and brushes. For eggshell or flat finishes, use medium-nap rollers and synthetic-bristle brushes.

    • 5). Paint a second coat after the first coat dries.

    • 6). Remove the painter's tape after the second coat has dried for 24 hours.
