- The average salary of an IT sales specialist in the United States was $94,760 per year as of May 2010, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). Specialists in the bottom 10 percent earned less than $51,940, while those in the top 10 percent earned over $146,580. The median income of these specialists was $87,390 annually.
- IT sales specialists working in the industry of computer systems design earned an average salary of $106,500 a year as of 2010, reports the bureau. Those working for wholesale electronic markets, agents and brokers earned an average of $101,470, and those employed by machinery, equipment and supplies merchant wholesalers earned an average of $86,370. Electrical and electronic goods merchant wholesalers offered an average salary of $92,380 for IT sales specialists, and wired telecommunications carriers offered an average of $96,490.
- The BLS reports that the states of California and Massachusetts had the highest concentration of jobs for IT sales specialists as of 2010, offering respective salary averages of $107,240 and $102,140 a year. The highest paying state in the nation for these specialists was Utah, with a salary average of $117,350 a year, followed by Hawaii with an average of $114,410 and Nebraska with an average of $110,260.
- The BLS predicts an increase of 9 percent in the employment rate of IT sales specialists between 2008 and 2018, a rate which is "about as fast" as the average rate for all jobs in the nation. This growth is attributed to the increasing variety of technical and scientific products available. Specialists working for software publishers and computer systems design companies will experience the fastest job growth, while employment will decrease in the manufacturing industry due to outsourced jobs.
