How to Change the Oven Element in a GE Spectra

104 1
    • 1). Shut off power to the oven by flipping the breaker switch for the kitchen to the "off" position. Allow the oven to cool if you have attempted to use it recently. Remove any racks or other items from the interior of the oven.

    • 2). Open the door and look for the heating element at the rear of the oven. The element looks like a piece of metal tubing that has been bent to cover the bottom of the oven.

    • 3). Take out the screws that hold the element onto the back wall of the oven. Pull the element out a few inches and remove the electrical wires that are attached to the back. Some heating elements may have retention clips or screws that must be loosened before you can disconnect the wire. Remove and discard the defective heating element.

    • 4). Connect the electrical wires to the new heating element. Set the element in place against the back of the oven and tighten the screws.

    • 5). Close the oven door and turn the kitchen's breaker switch back to the "on" position to restore power.
