- 1). Establish a stable connection to the Internet, such as through dialup, DSL, or cable.
- 2). Access the "Activate Windows" tool. Click the Start button to bring up the Start Menu. Click on "All Programs." Click the "Activate Windows" link pinned atop the All Programs to open the dialog box. If the tool is not at the top, click on the "System Tools" folder in "Accessories" in All Programs, and then click the "Activate Windows" link.
- 3). Select the "Yes, let's activate Windows over the Internet now" radio button on the "Let's activate Windows" page, and then click "Next."
Make one of two decisions at this point:
1) If you're also interested in "registering" you product, in addition to "activation," please proceed to Step 4.
2) Registration is optional, and if you wish to bypass and just activate Windows XP, select the "No, I don't want to register now; let's just activate Windows" radio button on the "Register with Microsoft" page. Click the "Next" button. Please proceed to Step 5. - 4). Select the "Yes, I want to register and activate Windows at the same time" on the "Register with Microsoft?" page, and then click "Next. Type in your personally identifiable information (name, address, etc.) on the "Collecting registration data" page. Click "Next" when finished.
- 5). Wait for the Activate Windows Wizard to make an Internet connection so that your Windows product can be activated (and registered). Once you see the "Thank you!" page, click the "OK" button.
