How to Change an Electrical Plug in a Refrigerator
- 1). Slide or roll the refrigerator out away from the wall to gain full access to the rear of the appliance. Unplug the existing cord from the wall electrical outlet.
- 2). Locate the service panel at the bottom of the backside of the refrigerator. The service panel will be labeled as well as having a cutout in the side for the existing power cord to enter the rear of the appliance. Using the screwdriver, remove the four screws in each corner and set them and the panel aside.
- 3). Follow the existing power cord into the back of the refrigerator until you locate the power strip or terminal block where the cord is connected. Unscrew each of the three screws and slide the connectors on each wire, from underneath the screws. Remove and discard the old power cord.
- 4). Attach the new power cord to the power strip or terminal block. Match the black wire to the brass screw, the white wire to the silver screw, and the green wire to the green screw, and slide the connectors underneath each screw and tighten them down.
- 5). Replace the service panel, and secure it in place with the four screws in each corner, tightened down.
- 6). Plug the refrigerator back into the wall outlet, and test for power. The light inside the refrigerator should come on when you open the door, and you should hear the hum of the compressor turn on to cool the refrigerator.
- 7). Slide or roll the refrigerator back into its typical operation location.
