Yarn Tricks for a Witch's Broom

104 4

    Preparing the Yarn

    • You can weave a witch's broom with any type of yarn. Cut a reasonable length, approximately 50 inches, and tie the two ends together to form a loop. It's possible to make witch's brooms in different sizes by experimenting with yarns of different lengths. A smaller loop will make a smaller broom. A larger loop makes a larger broom.

    Holding the Yarn

    • To begin, you must place the yarn correctly on your hands. For the three-bristle broom, open your left hand, spreading your fingers. Hook the loop onto the thumb and pinky fingers. The yarn should hook behind the thumb, run across the palm, and hook behind the pinky. Hook the other end of the loop onto your right hand the same way, making sure that the string between your two hands run parallel. For the four-bristle broom, hook the loop onto the thumb and pinky fingers as before on the left hand only. Pull downward on the string that runs across your palm until a new palm string appears. Pull the new palm string downward, and the yarn is ready.

    Three-Bristle Broom

    • Bring your right index finger to the palm of your left hand, and slide your finger underneath the string that extends across your palm. Separate your two hands, bringing the left-palm string across. As you separate your hands, rotate your index finger, twisting the string 360 degrees. Insert your left index finger into the space between your right index finger and the twist of the yarn loop. Pick up the right-hand palm string, just as you did previously, only do not rotate your finger as you separate your hands. Release the strings hooked on the thumb and pinky finger of your right hand to finish the broom.

    Four-Bristle Broom

    • You should have a long loop hanging from your left palm. Reach inside the loop with the middle finger of your right hand. Hook the loop that is around your left pinky finger. With your right-hand index finger, hook the loop that is around your thumb. Pull both loops through the larger loop in the middle. There will be four parallel lines of string between your hands that create three long rectangles. Curl the ring, middle and index fingers of your left hand downward, placing one finger in each of the rectangles. Position your left hand so your fingers point upward, and release the strings on your right hand. You will see two strings running across your left palm. Pull the lower string to complete the broom.
