How to Remove Running Boards on a Ford Explorer
- 1). Locate the bolts that keep the running boards in place. They should be located on the inside part of the Explorer's frame, not visible from the outside.
- 2). Starting at the driver's side front area, remove the bolts and/or screws holding the running board in place to the vehicle. (penetrating oil such as WD-40 may be needed to help loosen rusty or dirty bolts).
- 3). Remove the remaining bolts along the rest of the car.
- 4). Place the running board from one side of the vehicle aside, and continue to the other side of the vehicle. Remove the remaining bolts and screws to unhook it from the vehicle.
- 5). Check the vehicle's underside and side for any rust damage. The running boards and the bolts/screws that attach them to the vehicle tend to trap moisture that may cause additional rusting that cannot be seen when the running boards are installed.
