Learning Activity - Simon Says Obey!

103 2
Children learn best when they are active during the process.
This activity uses a common game children like to play to help teach an important truth.
The theme is a question for the kids: "Are you willing to follow God's directions?" The Bible verse to reinforce the teaching is Romans 6:16.
Lesson: Play the game "Simon Says" with the children for a few minutes.
(Have the children stand up.
Give various things to do such as touch your nose, clap your hands, hop on one foot, touch the ground, etc.
The children are to follow your commands only if you say "Simon says" before giving the command.
If you just give the command without saying "Simon says," they are not to follow it.
Those who do are out and sit out the rest of the round.
Play a couple of rounds if you have the time.
After the last round, have the children sit down and then explain why you played the game.
In order to do well in the game, what did you have to do? You had to listen closely to what I said.
You didn't know when I'd say "Simon says" so you had to listen carefully and also think about what you were doing.
When you stopped paying close attention, you wound up getting caught.
When playing the game, in order to do well or win, you have to follow the instructions.
If you choose to disobey the instructions, you're out.
The choice is up to you.
In your everyday life, there are things you know God wants you to do such as show kindness to others, obey your parents, tell others about Jesus, etc.
There are also things you know God doesn't want you to do, like use bad language, cheat, steal, disobey your parents, etc.
When you don't feel like doing something you know God wants you to do, talk to him about it.
Ask for his strength and desire to do it and then go ahead and do it.
When you are tempted to do something wrong, ask for his help to not do it, and then don't do it! Romans 6 tells us when you follow that plan, it will become a habit for you to do what's right and follow God's directions.
If you choose to regularly do wrong and disobey, that will become a habit as well.
It's your choice.
Personally, I think it is better to obey than to disobey.
If you are a child of God, are you willing to follow God's directions?
