What is Fire Sprinkler System? 

Fire Sprinkler System is considered as an effective tool for protecting lives and properties. The installation requires drilling of several holes through the ceilings/walls, wall demolition, and pipe fitting. Hence, doing self is not the best option unless you are a certified fire sprinkler system contractor. 

Here are a few guidelines while looking to install a fire sprinkler system in your home or business place;

 1. Always do search for a professional licensed contractor who can examine home / business premises, and can decides on the right type of fire sprinklers to install. One can find a fire sprinkler system contractor by searching online or through your phone directory. 

2. Make sure the contractor is a licensed contractor specialized in retrofitting of residential / commercial fire sprinkler systems. Once you hire a contractor, please ensure that the contractor examines and inspects the premises. After initial inspection, the contractor will figure out where the sprinkler heads will go in each room by taking measurements. Also, ensure that the contractor to check adequate pressure and flow-rate and come up with a comprehensive plan to install sprinkler system. In case there is a drop in water supply pressure then there is a need to install Fire Hoses and Fire Pumps to overcome the situation. 

3. In order to install fire sprinkler systems there is a need to drill holes through floors, ceilings and wall. Hence, it is advisable to remove wall papers, board, from the wall. 

4. The pipes have regular water supply and are made up of fire and heat resistant CPVC (chlorinated polyvinylchloride).

5. All pipe joints to be sealed watertight to prevent water leakage.

6. Always ensure proper tightening of the sprinkler heads to the corresponding holes in the walls or ceilings. The fire sprinkler heads will extend out only a few inches from the wall or ceiling.

How Fire Sprinkler System works? 

When a sprinkler operates the following sequence of events will happen: 

  1. Heat from the fire causes the glass bulb to break.

  2. This will release the cap.

  3. Water is released onto the diffuser.

  4. Water puts out the fire.
