- 1). Go to the main control panel for the alarm system. Some systems will have multiple panels located throughout the home or business, depending on the size of the space.
- 2). Enter the security code into the panel. This will override the alarm and disable the security system. Turn the system off after the code has been entered.
- 3). Call the security company if it has not called you yet. A monitoring service will normally call a home or business immediately on an alarm activation. If you haven't heard from the company, call and explain the circumstances of the false alarm. You will need to supply your name, address, phone number and likely a password associated with your alarm account and then the security company can notify the authorities to halt response if they are en route.
- 4). Disconnect the alarm system from its phone jack. Most alarm systems require a phone line to communicate to the outside world so unplugging it will stop the system until it is plugged back in.
