How to Repel Rodents

104 52
    • 1). Protect your food. Mice can chew through cardboard and paper, meaning any food in either is at risk. Keep cereal, sugar and other groceries that come in boxes or paper in protective plastic containers to keep mice out of the pantry and kitchen.

    • 2). Clean your house. Rodents feed on the crumbs you leave behind. In the kitchen, immediately clean up any spills or messes as well as crumbs or food particles. In the garage, sweep regularly and do not allow boxes to pile up. Keep birdseed and other food sources on high shelves and check them periodically.

    • 3). Lock your garbage. Rodents happily feed on discarded food. Invest in plastic garbage cans with heavy lids. If rodents cannot get into your trash, they will have to find food somewhere else.

    • 4). Use a natural rodent repellent in areas where rodents gather. Common repellents include fox urine, bay leaves, peppermint plants and a combination of dish soap and tobacco sauce. If you use a few repellents and control their food source, you should experience fewer rodent problems.
