Easy Oil Extraction
- One method of extraction is simple compression (cold press) of the nut, seed or bean to force out the oil. When the pressing is done only once, there are elements of the fruit in the oil. This one-stage pressing preserves the most nutritional value of the oil.
- Another extraction method, based on the pressing method, is adding heat into the process. The plant fruit is heated to 200 to 250 degrees Fahrenheit. This heated material is then placed under pressure to force the oil out.
- A basic premise with a variety of specific methods, steam distillation is a kind of heat extraction using moisture. According to the Esoteric Oils website, oil is extracted from the plant by seam and evaporates with the steam. This steam is then cooled, and the oil is removed.
- In chemical extraction, the plant fruit is reduced to small fragments. The next step is steaming, followed by a chemical addition. The added chemical removes the oil and then is itself removed.
