Perhaps, you have been watching the US news on TV and have taken a gander at the drought maps? Those are real and as the population base grows the usage grows too, making even a mild drought a crisis situation.
The UN, United Nations has declared this the "International Decade for Water Action.
" And there are many reasons why.
Currently, 3-Billion people suffer from water related diseases each year.
We are lucky here in the United States, as our water is quite pure by the World's standards.

1 Billion People do not have safe drinking water, most in developing nations have 10s of thousands who die each year from parasites or water diseases.
So, what are the real problems with water in the world? Well, we talked about; Water Scarcity and Droughts, but what about Pollution Degradation, especially in emerging nations which are growing fast and industrializing.
And mind you the less water there is the easier it is to have high concentrations of chemicals and pollutions per gallon.
Of course this is not all, in many regions of many nations there simply is not access to Safe Drinking Water for all people.
Environmental contamination, droughts, over population and lack of proper retention and water infrastructure head up the top of the list of reasons leading the UN to state that the human populations of the World are in severe water crisis.
