Organizing your personal closet saves you time, energy and stress. Getting ready in the morning is so much easier when you can find everything you need. There are many techniques for organizing your shoes and clothing around your lifestyle. With a little thought, your closet can reflect your style and keep you sane. - It is a good idea to organize your closet around your routine. If you have an order you typically follow for picking out clothes, make things easy for yourself by grouping items in that order. For example, if you typically pick out your shirt first, hang your shirts on the left of the closet. If you pick pants or skirts based on the shirt you choose, hang those next. If you're picky about matching colors, you can group items of like color together. This makes it easier to go right to the color you're in the mood for on a given day. You can also sort clothes by occasion or warmth.
- Before you start organizing, get rid of all the clothes you don't wear. CNN suggests flagging the hangers of items you're unsure about. When you wear the item, remove the tag. If a year has passed and the tag is still there, you can donate it to good will.
- Shoes can be a real organizational nightmare when they aren't stored neatly. If shoes aren't stored in pairs, you may waste a lot of time searching for a match (and make a mess in the process). Shoe cubbies are an easy solution to this problem. Shoe cubbies are inexpensive and can fit against a wall, right on the floor of your closet. You can use the top of the shoe cubby for folded clothes.
- Plastic or rubber storage bins are a great way to organize and store clothing. You can keep bulky winter clothes like wool sweaters in bins during the summer. Not only will this free up space in your closet, it will protect wool items from moths without the need for smelly mothballs.
- Be creative. If you need more drawer space and have extra space on your hanging pole, hang up jeans, sweats and other bulky items. If the reverse is true, fold up your sweaters and store them in drawers to free up hanging space.
