- 1). Move a porous concrete fountain indoors during the late fall. If this is not possible, raise it onto wooden blocks to prevent the base from freezing to the ground.
- 2). Dismantle the pump and store it indoors during winter. If this can't be done, remove rubber stoppers, drain pipes and smaller components, fill the pump with anti-freeze and block the outlets with heavy plastic sheeting secured with duct tape.
- 3). Dry a heavy immovable fountain thoroughly and wrap it in absorbent material, such as an old cotton blanket or towels. Place a waterproof cover over the fountain and tie the bottom securely to the base to prevent the bowl from filling with snow-melt and cracking during a later freeze.
- 4). Move a fiberglass fountain indoors or cover it with waterproof material. Even though fiberglass is n't susceptible to freezing, the bowl can still crack during a freeze if it fills with water.
