- 1). Select a name for your business. Ohio law requires that all corporations or companies have a unique business name that includes an indication of its company status, such as the inclusion of Inc. in the name for corporations or LLC in the name for limited liability companies.
- 2). Check the availability of the name against the business name database operated by the Ohio Secretary of State. No two businesses can have similar names under the law. If a business name is already chosen you will not be able to register that name.
- 3). Register your business' name by filing your company's articles of incorporation (or articles of formation if you are an LLC) with the Secretary of State, making sure to include your business name. Your business name will be registered upon receipt and approval of your articles by the secretary.
