    • 1). Trace the underground steam lines using the piping plat map to provide an approximate location of any pipes that need to be inspected. Use the metal detector to confirm the locations.

    • 2). Inspect the temperature of the ground using the thermal detector. Low-pressure steam is typically between 75 and 150 psi (pounds per square inch). At those pressures, the steam temperature is 320 to 366 degrees Fahrenheit. The thermal detector can detect the temperature of the ground and locate leaks.

    • 3). Identify the location of the steam leaks using the ground markers.
