- 1). Transfer any important files you need to an external storage device, such as a rewritable DVD or USB flash drive. Restart the computer.
- 2). Press the "F8" key repeatedly until a new menu appears. Scroll down through the list of menu options and select "Repair Your Computer."
- 3). Click the drop-down menu box and select the language you want to use when the Dell laptop is restored. Click "Next."
- 4). Choose "Dell Factory Image Restore" from the list of options and click "Next." Click the check box labeled "Reformat hard drive and restore system software to factory condition."
- 5). Click Next > Finish to delete the contents of the Dell's hard drive and restore the system to factory settings. Follow the prompts on the screen to setup the date and time settings on the laptop.
- 6). Restart the computer. Transfer the files you saved earlier back to the Dell laptop's hard drive.
