Starting the New Year With New Business Ideas
As a recession bites, many find that the pressures of their current job are getting too much, or more likely, there is a chance their job could be under threat.
Indeed, the threat of redundancy is very often the most common cause of people changing their path in life and plumping for a completely new direction.
This direction is very often associated with the job they currently do, however others go in a completely different direction and decide to monetise a hobby, or re-train for a new skill.
Some of the most common reasons for changing jobs are listed here; maybe you could find inspiration for the New Year?
- Make a hobby into a job
How can doing something you enjoy ever become tedious? Well, you need to remember that the reason you enjoy your hobby so much is because it is a break from work.
If your hobby starts to take up all your time and is interspersed with invoicing, accounts and dealing with customers, will it quickly become a chore?
- Retrain in something new
It is absolutely essential that you consider what it is you want to do because it could cost you a lot and if you are being made redundant, you're going to need that cash for living expenses.
- Online service
The first thing to remember is that it isn't in any way an easy buck.
Most of the big sites have been going for years and have attracted billions of funds to get them started.
The Internet can actually be a much harder place to get cash because so many people are now using it and trying to do the same thing, so approach with caution.
So then, what's best for you? Well maybe a combination of the above is needed? If you can perhaps take your hobby online in some way so that you can begin to monetise it, maybe that's the easiest way to get going? It won't take up so much of your time and will probably not become a chore as it's simply siphoning off an income from something you do anyway.
Or maybe your company, as part of their redundancy package is offering a training course as well? Some larger companies receive subsidies from the government if they are willing to train staff to take on other jobs.
As it's very rarely all skills that suffer during a recession, it can be beneficial for all parties to ensure the workforce remain skilled and mobile.
Even so, don't imagine that there are any easy ways to get to the point of running your own business and getting rid of your job anytime soon.
It's going to take time and investment and a huge learning curve to-boot.
