Top 7 Mistakes That Beginner Internet Marketers Make

101 10
Every day new people come online with hopes and dreams that the internet lifestyle can provide. Unfortunately the burn-out rate is high and many people don't even make it past the six month point in this business. In this article I am going to detail 7 of the top mistakes that beginner internet marketers make so you can avoid the pitfalls and focus on becoming a successful internet marketer.

1) Lack of Action - There's a few reasons why people don't take action. Obviously being lazy can be one of them, but I personally don't believe this applies to most people. Logically, people that want to make money online with internet marketing are motivated to do so, but perceived obstacles often act as barriers. Perhaps that is a technical issue or the assumption that you don't know enough to begin in a particular area. The harsh reality is that unless you do something, you will achieve nothing. There's a massive difference between dreaming about being a success and actually taking the steps towards really becoming one.

2) Learning Without Earning - Education is a great thing. You need to learn new things about internet marketing so you can progress from beginner to intermediate and finally become an expert over time. Trying to learn information too quickly without really understanding how to implement what you have learned or understand why you are doing something, can be counter-productive. What you should do is find a good course or product suitable for beginners and study it all the way through. When you feel you know enough, start to build your online business. Balance learning with taking action and earning by setting aside time for both activities.

3) Lack of Willingness to Invest In Products - People that fall into this category simply do not want to invest in their online business by purchasing any products. They think they can figure it all out themselves and even do things their way. Not many of these people succeed and at the very least they hamper their progress by wasting time trying to figure everything out by trial-and-error. I am not saying you should blow all your money on products, but you should be willing to invest in those products which are going to help you achieve your goals. You can't really put a price on that.

4) Not Using Time Saving Tools - Your time is the most precious commodity you own. When you first start online, you may be time rich and cash poor, but this won't always be the case. Develop the right mindset from the outset and realize when it makes sense to invest in tools that will either save you time or help you make even more money in the same amount of time. Re-invest in your online business and watch it grow much faster than those that don't want to spend a dime on tools that totally make sense to use.

5) Perceiving Product Creation as Too Much Work - I know this to be true as a result of speaking to many beginners to internet marketing. When you mention product creation to them, they often give you a look like a rabbit caught in a headlight. I think a fear factor kicks in and they believe that it's either beyond their scope of knowledge and experience or they believe it to be too much work. It's fine to start out marketing other people's products and services but at some point you really need to think about creating your own products.

6) Failure to Spot Opportunities - Here's an example. Imagine if I told you about a traffic source I knew of that cost $25 to try out. Some of you reading this article will look at the downside risk of losing $25 if it didn't work out. Others will see it as an opportunity and be more than happy to spend $25 by testing out that traffic source to see if it works in their online business. I am not saying you should blow thousands of dollars on things that may not work, but you need to balance risk versus reward and be smart enough to spot opportunities when they present themselves to you. Nobody is going to put a big red flashing beacon on a golden opportunity so you need to have your wits about you and seize them.

7) Not Tracking Your Results - If you don't know what is leading to those sales, how can you ramp up the things that are working? Likewise, how do you know what is or isn't producing results if you aren't tracking them? You need to test everything from traffic sources to which headlines work the best on your sales pages. Tracking can be the difference between a profitable campaign and a losing one. You can go broke fast if you don't know what is working in your online business. You need to be able to laser focus on the things producing positive returns on your investment.
