- 1). Place the flat sheet in one of the several large concave domes in the dapping block. Pick a dap punch that is just slightly smaller than the concave dome. This allows the punch to reach the entire surface area of the concave dome. A dap punch that does not fit entirely in the concave dome may damage the punch while you hammer.
- 2). Place the punch over the flat sheet and begin hammering with the dap hammer. Continue hammering until the flat sheet touches the concave dome surface.
- 3). Reposition the flat sheet inside the dome and hammer again. Continue hammering and repositioning until you get a uniform domed shape.
- 4). Remove the flat sheet and place in the next smallest concave dome in the dapping block. Choose a dapping punch that fits inside the concave dome. Begin hammering and alternative the position again until you create a uniform domed shape. Continue this process until you get the shape you want.
